Question 5

Time has passed through really quick. Currently, I see critical literacy as a very efficient subject. This tough subject helps me to understand and evaluate everything in new whole level. I have changed my sights concerning the world. I’ve changed my perceptions. I see things differently.

Tun Mahathir’s sayings in Malay Dilemma gave a big slap on my face. Unexpectedly, I see the benefits in reading. I once hated the facts that I have to read to improve, but not anymore.

This subject triggered me to read a lot more. My recommendation for this subject is to be added for other courses too. This subject might help students to think critically and change their character. This subject openly will make students improvise on their studies. Next, I believe this subject is not suitable to be taught in mass lecture. Large number of students and less concentration given by the lecturers lead to student’s failure.

Question 4

Hollywood movies always grab my attention. The ideas and story line that brought up by the producers are beyond my expectations.

Undoubtedly, ‘True Stories’ could be gigantic lie.

Based on my interpretations, Hollywood movies can unquestionably be biased. Throughout the movie, Black Hawk Down, the audiences were brainwashed by the fact that United States Air Force helped the US Army to win the war. However, they never of how the Malaysian Royal Army Force had assisted the United States in the said the battle.

Professionals were saying, Hollywood inclines to bargain many types of movies that fit our expectations and beliefs; conversely those movies could rarely be trustworthy. As in the movie, Titanic, the movie was planned to attract audience by using romance between two people as a ‘catalyst, while they barely focus on the incident involving the titular ship; the sinking of the so-called greatest ship on earth.

In the nutshell, Hollywood is always one of the best movie producers ever yet the results could not ever be accepted by the society wholly.

Question 3

I’d strongly disagree with the statement that was taken from NST. These statements were actually giving ways to people on leaving their responsibilities on other people’s hand. Indeed, money can buy happiness, yet does money is what matters most to us?

Giving ways for people to hand their kids just to make money isn’t fair. How’d individuals feel when they get to know that their parents ‘sold’ them to someone else just to live a luxurious life? How do couples that have no money and children to adapt to their situation? Psychologically, this affects the communities.

To buy a child with 40,000 MYR seems cheap for rich couples, yet what would happen when the child turned out to be someone who can’t be accepted by the parents? Would they still keep them? The child isn’t from the couples’ own bloodlines, they bought him like how they bought their clothes. Enough with what has happened in our current world. With the modernized world that we have today, why don’t those rich couples find ways to produce children on their own? We have such technologies; there are many other ways to get our own children.

Those less fortunate children and orphanages need more help. Why don’t we focus on them? They are humans too. Adopting orphanages and poor children are legal, but why don’t people take the opportunities to adopt them? Surveys show orphanages and poor children are lack of guidances and care. These kids are desperate for parents' love and guidances. These less fortunate children should be prioritized by our communities.

Stop ruining our society. What about our grandchildren’s future then?

Question 2

Stereotyping is a massive problem most people are facing. Experts claimed this problem as one of the biggest problems in our current society. This problem should actually be avoided and taught during primary level. Classifying persons based on our perceptions and views can never be accepted. Studies show that stereotyping leads to bigger issues.

As we could see in today’s reality, individuals are being afraid of showing their actual colors because nowadays societies are being judgmental and unsupportive. Regarding this psychological issue that conquered our society, most people tend to be introvert and less friendly.

Surveys have proven that this problem leads to cyber bullies as technologies have taken over our present world. Undeniably, this issue shouldn’t be taken lightly as it could bring destructions to communities in this whole world. According to professionals, stereotyping surely creates disastrous and unsuccessful communities in later world.

Question 1

I’ve heard about this subject since I was in semester 1. Seniors were saying that this subject was really tough for them. I was curious and scared when I got to know about it. This subject seems to be very hard. Even those seniors who did great on other subjects keep complaining about CL.

As time passes by, it is now my turn to face the ‘toughness’ of this killer subject. In my first class, Madam Zariati frightened me with her statements “Every semester, I have students who failed this subject, and I’m expecting the same for this semester. If you fail to give your commitments, I’d see you again next semester.”

When I first tried to understand this subject, I find it very hard for me to adapt everything in class. Mass lectures made it harder for me too. I spent most of my free time trying to understand more about the rules of 10 yet I started to get it after a while. As the first assignment was given to me, it was very hard. I spent 2 sleepless nights just to understand the articles that were handed to me. I have a really high expectation on this subject. This subject has caught my attention since I was new here.

I’m hoping that I could go along with this subject really well. I hope this subject could make me think critically and change my perceptions. I’m hoping critical literacy will not let me down. This is one of my favorite subjects so far. This subject may seem to be very hard yet very fascinating. Please be nice to me, dear CL.
